Choosing mattress

An important factor in achieving a good night’s sleep is to have enough amount of space.  Your mattress should be longer and wider than the amount of space you and your partner uses to sleep.  For example, a SUPER SINGLE BED SIZE is recommended for teenagers or adults sleeping alone as opposed to Single Bed size as it would offer that extra space required.

When considering a Bed size, take note that it normally refers to the dimensions of a mattress and the names by which standard sizes are called. Each Bed vary widely in size according to the size of the frame and degree of ornamentation but are sold according to the size of mattress they fit in. If you are buying a SUPER SINGLE BED SIZE, then it is referring to Super Single Mattress.

The dimensions and names vary considerably around the world, but for Singapore, you can refer to the following diagram as reference :

If room size is not a constraint, we recommend the Super Single size bed for Adults as it provides better comfort and sleep quality. Children above the age of 12 may outgrow a Single size mattress, which makes the Super Single size bed a good upgrade.

Queen Bed Size and King Size Bed

The Queen is the minimum size recommended for 2 Adults sleeping together.  A King size mattress would allow more movement and would be an ideal choice if space is not a constraint.   This size is also a better fit for heavier sleepers or if you have kids who likes to share your bed.

Single Bed Size

A single can accommodate an average sized Adult or a young child that no longer wants to sleep in a baby cot.  However, as our diets gets better, we are seeing more children outgrowing a single size bed much faster than they used too. Size – What to consider?

1. Are you happy with your current mattress size ?

Are you getting enough comfort and freedom for good sleep every night?  If not, you may find it more pleasant to go one size up.

2. Are you taller and heavier than average ?

If you are tall or heavier, you may require a bigger mattress to be truly comfortable. For optimal comfort, consider buying a mattress that is at least 4-6 inches longer than your height.

3. Do you Toss and Turn a lot ?

Are you a disciplined sleeper, or do you change positions frequently?  When either one of you tosses or turns, getting a bigger mattress can give you a better night’s sleep and less disturbances for the other one.
